Choosing a Direction

Within the parameters of the assignment, pick a topic that you are familiar or that you would like to know more about. You might have an idea of your goal at this point (It might be something like, “We need to buy a new car.”) but it’s almost better if you don’t know for sure. You might just pick a very broad topic at this point, like “cars.”

Often, the situation or assignment makes the direction obvious. If the assignment asks you to summarize your most memorable childhood experience, this step is done for you.
